Sacred Smoke:

This program is a comprehensive and holistic approach to working with people who are in the process of quitting smoking. It addresses the physical, psychological, social, emotional, spiritual, and cultural aspects of each individual. It assists in the process of quitting the misuse of tobacco through education of:
- tobacco misuse versus spiritual use
- tobacco and its effects upon health,
- different NRT's available
- traditional uses of tobacco, sacred teachings
- the importance of building self-esteem
- the addiction, understanding why you started smoking, and learning to be
   assertive in healing.
Smoking rates in First Nation, Métis and Inuit people are extremely high - at least double to almost triple the smoking rates of the Canadian average. Nicotine is one of the most powerful and addictive substances that exist. This harm reduction program was developed to address these facts along with the fears and frustrations that Aboriginal people face in attempting to quit smoking cigarettes. Learning about the sacredness of tobacco, our own personal health and how stop the misuse of tobacco will ensure the teachings and traditions will be pasted down from generation to generation.
