Cyber Cafe/ Youth Fitness Program

Target groups:
Aboriginal (First Nation, Inuit and Métis) Youth age 13-18

Total # of clients served:
36 Aboriginal youth:
30 First Nations
4 Inuit
5 Métis and
3 other indigenous

Program description:
The Cyber Café is an afterschool program offered every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. that provides Aboriginal youth with:

  • tutors for homework support and mentoring
  • free internet access
  • fun physical activities (such as hip hop, lacrosse and bowling)
  • Cultural learning and support (craft workshops, Elder teachings, talking circles etc.)

The services offered by the program are delivered in a way that establishes a working relationship with the youth that encourages trust, respect and honour in a traditional setting. The Medicine Wheel is used as a way to deliver a balanced work plan.
